The Significance of Learning CPR

In Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support or ACLS courses, CPR is an integral part of the curriculum. Short for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, CPR is an emergency procedure done on a person under cardiac arrest. It combines chest compression with artificial ventilation to help the flow of blood and oxygen and increase survival chances.

While CPR is an important skill that more people should be proficient at, there seems to be less interest among many of our population. The following reasons should help you decide and enroll in an ACLS course and learn about CPR.

You Can Help Save Lives

The leading cause of death in the world is heart disease, with over 600,000 deaths each year. In the US, according to the American Health Association, 88% of the 350,000 cases of out-of-hospital- cardiac arrests in 2016 died. While the chances of survival of those under cardiac arrest can be improved with the prompt and proper administration of CPR, it can be deduced that CPR may not have been administered at all.

With four out of five cardiac arrests outside hospitals happening in homes, the one you saved maybe a member of your family. Indeed, when a family member is proficient with CPR, death from cardiac arrest in your own home can be eliminated.

You Know What to Do During Emergencies

Because most cardiac arrests happen anytime and anywhere outside of hospitals, being ACLS-certified is genuinely beneficial. Many times, cardiac arrest occurred when no one is proficient in giving CPR. This leads to death or at least brain death to the victim because four to six minutes of heart failure may lead to brain death.

Being ACLS-certified will surely give you confidence in handling emergency conditions such as cardiac arrest. Providing medical care while paramedics are on their way can help save a victim of cardiac arrest. Saving someone else life is indeed confidence-boosting and can give more meaning to our lives.

It Boosts Your Credentials
